Shakespeare's Hamlet
QUEEN GERTRUDE
There is a willow grows aslant a brook,
That shows his hoar leaves in the glassy stream;
There with fantastic garlands did she come
Of crow-flowers, nettles, daisies, and long purples
That liberal shepherds give a grosser name,
But our cold maids do dead men's fingers call them:
There, on the pendent boughs her coronet weeds
Clambering to hang, an envious sliver broke;
When down her weedy trophies and herself
Fell in the weeping brook. Her clothes spread wide;
And, mermaid-like, awhile they bore her up:
Which time she chanted snatches of old tunes;
As one incapable of her own distress,
Or like a creature native and indued
Unto that element: but long it could not be
Till that her garments, heavy with their drink,
Pull'd the poor wretch from her melodious lay
To muddy death.

I'd been wanting to make a head wreath made of pretty flowers and weeds for a while, but I didn't want more pieces of dead plants in my apt. I have enough of those, really. I'm not a fan of fake flowers, and was quite picky about which ones to buy. I spent a while picking this, and that, going back and forth, putting stuff back as I found better ones -__-;;;;; I think I don't mind them so much now, just have to pick the good ones.
I was just gonna see which flowers appealed to me and which ones would go well together, but the night before, I was going to sleep; then saw the pile of antique and vintage books on the floor, and decided to skim Hamlet. I'd marked the part where Hamlet and Ophelia met again, (sad, very sad) and the part where the queen was talking about Ophelia's death. I always liked the idea of picking weeds and wildflowers to make into pretty wreaths. So then I decided I was going to make an Ophelia inspired head wreath (yeah, I'm a fan of the pre-Raphaelite Ophelia paintings)~!
So yeah... I wanted the look and feel of crazy girl picking weeds and playing with flowers. I couldn't find decent daisies, though, so I used roses. I like it (:
